Rozanne’s story

With my improved balance, I am able to walk more confidently now without the constant fear of falling.

Rozanne McDonough knows only too well about the impact a fall can have on one’s independence, social life and self-confidence. Over the past few years, Rozanne has had multiple falls, sustaining injuries from lacerations to shoulder dislocations.

When she injured her wrist after a fall early in 2016, her doctors at the Austin Hospital suggested she attend some physical exercise sessions at Southern Cross Care (Vic) Wellness Centre, located in Preston, to strengthen her muscles and improve her balance.

Rozanne began attending the Wellness Centre in February 2016 and has not had a single fall since. Her self-confidence has improved and, no longer gripped with the fear of falling and injuring herself in public, she is getting out more often to meet with friends. The lovely friendships she formed with other older people at the Centre has further boosted her self-confidence. Rozanne is now happily promoting the importance of physical exercise to her friends.
