Dementia is not a disease. It is a general term used to describe a collection of symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain. There are approximately 100,000 people in Victoria living with dementia. Southern Cross Care (Vic) is committed to supporting people living with dementia and their families.
Unparalleled specialist dementia care
We are proud of our well-earned reputation as one of Victoria’s largest providers of dementia care and support. Our specialist staff are among the best in the business, regularly training staff on dementia management techniques. We are also actively engaged in implementing best practice, ensuring you will always have the best advice and support as you need it.
Use of innovative technology
We regularly use new technology in innovative ways to assist people living with dementia. For example, we have trialled electronic self-reminding devices, which use a person’s own voice to remind them about medications and appointments.
In the community
We currently offer a home-based Dementia Advisory Service for people over the age of 65, living in the southern metropolitan region of Melbourne. The aim is to support people with dementia and their carers with information and practical day-to-day advice to help them manage the changes that dementia brings.
